Welcome to Yahho Prickles! My name is Aaron and I started this journey with my partner Cheryl. It all started as a joke to tease Cheryl for unintentionally killing off her succulent friends. She was buying small cacti at shopping mall booths to decorate her desk, but due to lack of sunlight and too much watering, they would always end up dying. So I thought, why not turn her plant-killing tendencies into something positive and drew a cactus character that would never die? I made it into a mobile wallpaper and sent it to her as a joke.
At the time, Cheryl had left her job to explore other industries, but things didn’t work out, and I had also left my job as a graphic designer because I felt stagnant and unfulfilled. I had always dreamed of starting my own business, but didn’t know where to start.
I thought freelancing might be the way to go, but I quickly realised I sucked at finding clients, and driving for Grab took up all my energy and time. To make matters worse, I had rented a car for a year through Grab just to pay the rent, talk about a prickly situation.
But one day, while looking at other artists selling stickers and pins, Cheryl and I jokingly talked about printing our cactus character on stickers and selling them. And just like that, Yahho Prickles was born! I did the artwork, while Cheryl took care of social media and business development.
We started with print-on-demand platforms, but they were a total bust. We didn’t give up though, we continued to grow our presence on Instagram and made friends with other artists. Our persistence paid off when we finally got our first supporter, a fellow artist, who bought one of our stickers.
And the rest, as they say, is history! We secured booth space, started selling publicly, and made even more friends who constantly support us. Today, I feel like our journey is taking a new direction. I realised that my artwork wasn’t adding value to our followers, so I’ve decided to start a blog to share what I’ve learned from reading and attending courses. My goal is to inspire and support growth and happiness in others.
Of course, we’ll still have a merchandise store where our followers can show their support, and with this website, we hope to add even more value to your lives. So, thank you for your constant support, and we hope you enjoy what we have in store for you!
